The American University of Nigeria’s (AUN) best‎ graduating student, Cameroonian born, Gregory Tanyi, has said his passion and long term goal is to help the blind and people with disabilities by connecting them to the Internet of things.
He disclosed this to journalists on Saturday during the 2016 graduation ceremony of 209 students of the school in Yola, Adamawa State.

Tanyi, who graduated with a first class honours in Telecommunications and Wireless Technology from the developmental university, said his family background helped him in achieving that feat.
According to him, his father is a Professor in Engineering‎ while his uncle who raised his father up, was the first Cameroonian to get a Ph.D in Mathematics.
‎The best graduating student who enthused about his achievements said he was going to miss the school and the friends he made even as he plans to travel for a while to relax  before  he embarks on his internship.

Meanwhile, the President of AUN, Prof Margee Ensign has assured that the first class of 2016 graduates are going to live out the mission of the institution.
She said these last four years have defined what it means to be a development university.
”Our students are active participants of the huge success of our community outreach programme. They are refining of what ‎ it means to be a student of Africa’s developmental institution.”
She commended former Vice President‎ Atiku Abubakar for his singular contributions to the development of the university, saying that no one has contributed to higher education than him, “I’ve got to tell the story.”

Saying that the university was sending the graduating students out to solve problems, Ensign‎ noted that  the literacy programmes of AUN could wipe out literacy in the state in less than three years.
The AUN president also  disclosed that the university was pioneering the use of technology in Yola and in the North East as a

Fake Admission: Unilorin Expels 108 Fresh Students

Unilorin
The University of Ilorin says no fewer than108 fresh students of the institution were expelled for gaining admission through dubious means.
The institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, disclosed this on Monday in Ilorin while exchanging views with the Commissioner of Police in Kwara, Mr Sam Okaula, who visited him.

Ambali told the commissioner that due to stable academic calendar and culture of excellence prevalent in the university, the pressure to secure admission into the institution was high.
“This result in some candidates seeking illegal and unauthorised ways to gain admission into the university,” he said.

Ambali assured the commissioner of the university’s continuous cooperation by readily offering the police useful information required in the course of their work.
“We will volunteer any information you need to succeed,’’ the vice chancellor said.
He reiterated the university’s stance on zero tolerance for cultism and indecent dressing, stressing that these had helped to maintain sanity on the campus.
Ambali also gave an assurance that eligible personnel of the Force interested in higher education could take advantage of the opportunity provided by the university’s Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies.
Earlier, Okaula said the university was highly regarded as one of the best universities in Africa because of its stable academic calendar.
Okaula also said that security was a collective responsibility of every member of a community, adding that the university had demonstrated zero tolerance for cultism.
He said that no student of the institution was among the 118 recently arrested for cult-related activities.
The commissioner commended the Security Unit of the university for its focus, discipline and professionalism, assuring the vice-chancellor of the continuous support of the police.
Ukaula said the police had adopted scientific investigation method, noting that some officers would require more education in that regard.
He pleaded with Ambali to assist such personnel in securing admission to improve their capacity to be able to better deal with crime in the country. (NAN)

While building/writing your company profile "Claim your unique assets"

By explaining a founder's uniquely circuitous route to the company's development, or stating the special awards and honors a company has garnered, the donations or volunteering it's employees provide the community, it gives the reader some grasp of how the company is unique, special or different from others in it's same category.

Elaborating a bit on the education, training, credentials or experience of personnel excites customers and helps them identify the company that fits their own beliefs and criteria.

Being generic and obtuse in your company description makes it really hard for any readers to understand why they would want to do business with a company or buy products/services that sound like any others.

Above all else, be honest and interesting, since plenty of bland, boring and hype-filled profiles already abound

If you have just launched a new business and are looking to make a great first impression on prospective customers, then it is essential to create an powerful company profile.

A well-written company profile is an effective way to introduce the business to the potential customers and other stakeholders. A company profile is a professional introduction of the business and aims to inform the audience about its products and services.
To create business or company profiles, one needs to carefully develop a strategy and map out the characteristics to be highlighted and how to assimilate the unique offerings of the business in a concise yet attractive manner.

A great profile is crucial for any business but it should not be the only promotional tool; one needs to create the right marketing mix to reach out to customers and get them interested in your brand.

Infuse some personality while writing your company profile

A great company profile should be filled not only with descriptions of products (or services), but also some sense or personality of the business' culture. Adding information about the company's purpose, community support or mission (not one of those trite mission statements, though) can add human personality to a profile, thus adding interest to the reader.

People relate to people. So, add something from a human perspective.

Your business could explain how profits benefit local animal shelters or homeless populations or you might even employ a humorous style in the description if it's appropriate to the company's products.

My own profile talks about my belief that 'marketing is a spiritual practice' because in my experience a company thrives the closer it matches it's values and purpose that is at the 'soul' of that company. No, it's got nothing to do with religion. But it has everything to do with marketing not being hype, but being a deeply felt expression of a company's core competency, attracting clients who are right for one's company--that's the reason to infuse personality.

I've always enjoyed the clever and silly product descriptions of Benefit Cosmetics -- and I don't even wear makeup cos am a guy that loves my natural self.

Provide useful information in lay person's terminology

A profile should include key personnel, descriptions of the company's products or services in a manner that laypersons, as well as industry personnel, can comprehend. Why?

Because, a reporter might be looking for relevant businesses for a story they are preparing. Naturally, including your company could possibly bring great 'free exposure' to your intended market (if it's a positive story, of course).

But if the reporter -- or anyone else who is googling the product/service you provide -- cannot figure out what you offer, your profile won't help sell your products, nor entice media to interview your company personnel.

This does not mean you cannot include high level industry information, just be sure to also include some easy-to-comprehend lay terminology in your description.

Writing a company profile

A great company profile can engage and attract the right customers or supporters for a business, or it can bore them to sleep driving them to your competitors which are easily googled in seconds.
For media attention, a business needs an intriguing profile to entice editors or reporters to gain an understanding of the company's mission, products, services, personnel and uniqueness.
To acquire financing, a comprehensive company profile should be submitted with a business plan to feature unique qualifications of the company or personnel, that aren't generally outlined in a business plan.

Without a well-crafted company profile, a company may not be attracting the best candidates when posting job descriptions, or even suppliers and vendors to help them grow.

What about our educational institutions today........

Education helps us build opinions and have points of view on things in life. People debate over the subject of whether education is the only thing that gives knowledge. Some say education is the process of gaining information about the surrounding world while knowledge is something very different. They are right
Education is vital to a thriving society. A society without education will become the breeding ground for violence and intolerance. But an educated society will promote tolerance and peace, justice and understanding, innovation and advancement, and positive, self-sustaining growth. It's important to educate our children, no matter where they live, for they will grow to become responsible citizens of their society. Each child represents a future, the future of the community, of the country, and indeed the future of the whole world.

Evaluate bonds as diversification opportunities........

By investing in different types of bonds, you can lower your overall investment risk. Diversification may include investing in bonds from different issuers, bonds with different maturity dates, and bonds from different geographical areas.

Technically, this style of investing eliminates what is known as non-systemic risk, or risk due to fluctuations in markets and industries.

Try the following techniques to diversify your bonds.

•    Invest in bonds of varying quality. By balancing risky investments in lower-rated bonds with investments in higher-rated bonds, you mitigate some of the risk associated with lower-rated bonds. Additionally, the large spread in lower-rated bonds may help buffer some of the effects of interest rates on the value of your bond portfolio.

•    Buy bonds with different maturity dates to get the best of short-term and long-term returns. Short-term bonds may be performing better than long-term bonds at any given time, or vice versa. By holding money in both types, you are able to more frequently benefit from price fluctuations.

•    Invest in geographically diverse bonds. Whether this is within your own country, maybe diversifying between regions or states, or between nations, you can limit a large amount of risk by purchasing bonds from different areas. For example, by purchasing foreign bonds, an American investor might be temporarily insulated from the price effects of a United States interest rate hike

How can you determine bond quality?

Determine a bond's quality. Bonds are given a rating or grade that indicates their credit quality. This measures a bond issuer's ability to repay the invested capital and interest on time.

The agencies that rate bonds are private, independent companies such as Standard & Poor's, Moody's, and Fitch. Ratings may be found by searching for the bond online.

•    Bonds are generally rated from "AAA" to "C", with a rating closer to AAA indicating higher reliability. Though different rating agencies use different combinations of uppercase and lowercase letters to represent these ratings, they use the same combinations of letters (for example, "AAA" is the same as "aaa").
•    As a general guide, anything over "BBB" is considered to be investment grade. That is, the ratings agencies consider it to be safe enough to invest in.
•    An additional rating, "D", is sometimes used for bonds in default

Understand how bonds are issued

Bonds are issued with a certificate in electronic form. The par value is the dollar amount stated on the face of the bond certificate.

The annual interest rate paid to the investor is also included on the bond certificate, along with the maturity daate
•    Once the bond is sold to the initial investor in the primary market, the bond can be traded between an unlimited number of investors. Bonds are bought and sold between investors in the secondary market.
•    Assume that Bob owns an IBM corporate bond. Bob sells the bond to Sue. The sale between these two investors is a secondary market transaction.
•    Bonds trade based on a market price in the secondary market. The price is driven by demand, the interest rate on the bond and the credit quality. If a bond is trading at a discount, the market price is less than $1,000 per bond. Premium bonds are bonds that are priced above $1,000 per bond. An investor who sells a bond may incur a gain or a loss

Learn how bonds works

A bond is a debt instrument issued by a government entity or a corporation to raise capital. The purchaser of a bond is a creditor and the bond issuer is the debtor.

o    When a bond is issued, it is sold to investors for the first time. The investor pays the issuer (government or corporation) for the bond.

o    Say, for example, that General Electric (GE) wants to raise money to build a new plant. They issue a $100,000,000 15-year, 8% corporate bond. Assume that 2,000 people buy a portion of the $100,000,000 bond issue. The bond buyers are paid 8% interest on their investment each year.

o    At the end of 15 years, the bond matures. GE repays the entire $100,000,000 to the bondholders. All of the bondholders are repaid their portion of bond issue.

o    A bond is issued to the public for the first time in the primary market. The GE bond example is a primary market transaction. GE (the issuer) gets the sale proceeds from the investors. They use the proceeds to build the new plant

Why invest in Bonds?

Government entities and corporations raise money by issuing bonds. The issuer of a bond is a borrower who makes interest payments each year. Investors purchase bonds as an investment.

The investor earns interest each year and is repaid their original investment on a specific maturity date. As an investor, you can bnuy individual bonds or a bond mutual fund or exchange-traded fund (ETF)

Why Invest in Bonds?
Many personal financial advisors recommend that investors maintain a diversified investment portfolio consisting of bonds, stocks and cash in varying percentages, depending upon individual circumstances and objectives.

Whatever your investment goals, your investment advisor can help explain the investment options available, taking into account your income needs and tolerance for risk.

NAVY FAQ

CAN I REQUEST TO WORK IN A CERTAIN AREA OR FIELD?

You can request career placement in fields such as nuclear engineering, advanced electronics, computers or aviation. The Navy has jobs in more than 60 fields, and if a position is open in a field for which you are qualified, your recruiter will work with you to get you that position.

CAN I SWITCH JOBS IF I DON’T LIKE WHAT I DO?

It is possible to switch jobs, but you can’t always count on it. That’s why you are encouraged to find a job you like before training so that your training will not go to waste. Also, the Navy is more likely to let you switch jobs if you want to switch to a rating that is in high demand, such as one in nuclear power.

WHAT IF I DON’T KNOW WHAT JOB I WANT TO DO?

No problem. Your recruiter can help you figure out what you may be good at and can help you find a job that matches your existing aptitudes.

IF I FIND A NAVY JOB I LIKE BUT HAVE NO EXPERIENCE IN IT, WILL THE NAVY TRAIN ME?

Absolutely. You just need to have the interest and meet any entrance-level qualifications.

Invest in a team and not a star

Even if you’re smart or lucky enough to find that rare stock picker who can consistently beat the market over time, there’s a good chance he will be gone before the long run comes around. The average number of years that an active manager stays with a stock fund is just 5.7.
One simple solution: Stick with stellar funds run by disciplined committees, not a single manager.

Build a moat

In the constantly changing world of business, the key to investing success isn’t identifying companies that are growing the absolute fastest. Rather, it’s “determining the competitive advantage of any given company and, above all, the durability of that advantage,”

Warren Buffett famously wrote.
