Impossible is just a word

Everyone, at some point of his or her life, has dreamed of being somebody special, somebody big. Who hasn't fantasized about being the one who hits the game-winning homer?
Who hasn't dreamed of being the homecoming queen? And how many times have we dreamed of being rich, or successful, or happy with our relationships?
Often, we dream big dreams and have great aspirations. Unfortunately, our dreams remain just that dreams. And our aspirations easily collect dust in our attic.
This is a sad turn of events in our life. Instead of experiencing exciting adventures in self actualization, we get caught up in the humdrum of living from day-to-day just barely existing. But you know what? Life could be so much better, if only we learned to aim higher.
The most common problem to setting goals is the word impossible. Most people get hung up thinking I can't do this. It's too hard. It's too impossible. No one can do this. However, if everyone thought that, there would be no inventions, no innovations, and no breakthroughs in human accomplishment.
Remember that scientists were baffled when they took a look at the humble bumblebee. Theoretically, they said, it was impossible for the bumblebee to fly. Unfortunately for the bumble, bee no one has told it so. So fly it does. On the other hand, some people suffer from dreaming totally outrageous dreams and not acting on them. The result? Broken dreams, and tattered aspirations.
If you limit yourself with self-doubt, and self-limiting assumptions, you will never be able to break past what you deem impossible. If you reach too far out into the sky without working towards your goal, you will find yourself clinging on to the impossible dream.
Try this exercise. Take a piece of paper and write down some goals in your life. Under one header, list down things you know you can do. Under another header, write the things you might be able to do. And under one more, list the things that that are impossible for you to do.í Now look at all the headers strive every day to accomplish the goals that are under things ëyou know you can do.
Check them when you are able to accomplish them. As you slowly are able to check all of your goals under that heading, try accomplishing the goals under the other header-the one that reads ëyou might be able to do.í As of the items you wrote under things I could do are accomplished, you can move the goals that are under things that are ëimpossible for you to doí to the list of things ëyou might be able to do.í As you iterate through this process, you will find out that the goals you thought were impossible become easier to accomplish. And the impossible begin to seem possible after all. You see, the technique here is not to limit your imagination. It is to aim high, and start working towards that goal little by little.
However, it also is unwise to set a goal that is truly unrealistic. Those who just dream towards a goal without working hard end up disappointed and disillusioned. On the other hand, if you told someone a hundred years ago that it was possible for man to be on the moon, they would laugh at you.
If you had told them that you could send mail from here to the other side of the world in a few seconds, they would say you were out of your mind.
But, through sheer desire and perseverance, these impossible dreams are now realities. Thomas Edison once said that genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Nothing could be truer. For one to accomplish his or her dreams, there has to be had work and discipline.
But take note that that 1% has to be a think-big dream, and not some easily accomplished one. Ask any gym rat and he or she will tell you that there can be no gains unless you are put out of your comfort zone. Remember the saying, ìNo pain, no gainî? That is as true as it can be. So dream on, friend!
Donít get caught up with your perceived limitations. Think big and work hard to attain those dreams. As you step up the ladder of progress, you will just about find out that the impossible has just become a little bit more possible.

The road to intuition

Have you had that experience when all of a sudden you just had this huge hunch that something is about to happen, and to your surprise, that intuition was eventually translated to reality?
When you feel strongly about something without logical basis to it, that's called intuition. It comes in three impressions: clairvoyance or "the third eye", sensing clearly and feeling through listening.
Clairvoyance is when your eye goes beyond what it can see.

This is when you know what is happening somewhere. Sensing clearly is basically what we refer to as "hunch" or "gut feel." This is the time when you are overwhelmed with a feeling and you can't explain it and all you can say is "I just know." On the other hand, feeling through listening or clairaudience is being able to "listen" between the lines. Intuition also happens at times when a certain sound, whatever it is - be it a car's honk or a bird's twitting - ushers in an intense feeling.
They say only a number of people are gifted with intuition. Astrologers even insist that people born under the Scorpio or Pisces signs are naturally intuitive it almost borders on E.S.P.

But studies have been sprouting left and right that proclaim that anyone can develop intuition. Why the need to develop intuition, you ask? Why not let your emotional and psychological state as it is?
First and foremost, intuition promotes good communication. It makes you more sensitive to the people around you; it often keeps you from hurting those you love because you are intuitive enough to understand them. Intuition also makes you far more creative than ever. Intuition means releasing more creative juices for any means of expression. Lastly, intuition has a healing power.
This healing power is not in the physical sense, but in delving deep into your soul to eradicate some negative energy buried in it.

With that being said, are you ready to develop your intuition? Here are some ways to unlock this gift:

1. Hypnosis Oh yes, get yourself hypnotized.
Hypnosis is not limited to watching a pendulum move back and forth. Perform self-hypnosis or you can avail of hypnotic programs that can strengthen your intuition.

2. Meditation Meditating means finding peace in yourself.
If your mind and heart are cluttered with too many baggage and hurt, you wouldn't be able to quiet down that part of you that could eventually initiate intuition. There are so many ways to meditate: take a yoga class, or just simply practice some breathing that could bring you straight to Zen.

3. Think positive! A worry-free, fear-free state could do so much to improve your intuitive ability.
By staying positive, you attract good energy that would be able to easily recognize imminent feelings and events.

4. Just let go.
What does this mean? If you are on the brink of making a huge decision, let go of all the inhibitions and head to a quiet place where you could find out where the letting go has brought you. Sometimes you just have to listen to the voice within you, and that voice wouldn't come out unless you let go.

5. Never expect.
After letting go of the inhibitions and all those things that stop you from thinking and feeling clearly, never expect for an answer right away. Never expect that the "hunch" would fall on your lap immediately. Give it a little time then you'd just get surprised that -- wham! -- now you have your answer.

6. Believe in your first impressions.
When you see someone for the first time and think that he is a bit too arrogant for your taste, chances are that impression actually holds true. Most of the time, first impressions are brought by intuition.

7. Stay happy! See? All you need to be intuitive is to stay happy! Happiness attracts immense power and such power includes intuition. In tapping your intuition, your motivation must be happiness and contentment.

Given that premise, intuition will fall to you easily. Intuition is helpful, because sometimes it leads you to something that cannot be achieved otherwise. A lot of lives have been saved by intuition alone. Decisions are easier done if armed by this gift. Develop intuition now and reap benefits you have never imagined.

Cultivate your own image

Familiarity breeds contempt is a very good rule. The stars remain far above the Earth. You must keep a distance from all but your closest of relations. Once people see everything of a leader he loses his aura and with it the authority and mystique he may have created.

For example, Ronald Reagan was known to many as an excellent leader. He carefully cultivated his image of a folksy, considerate politician who kept the interests of the United States first and foremost in his mind. At gatherings of world leaders, he commanded attention and respect in his dark suits, surrounded by the trappings of power such as political aides, security officers and a convoy of limousines. As soon as he appeared, thoughts of authority and power came to our minds.

Did you ever see the President with his shirt off swimming at his pool? How about in his dressing gown after waking up after one of his long sleeps, hair tousled and beard grown? Reagan's handlers never allowed such glimpses because they detract from the perception of authority.

The American nation was not exposed to these sights. In the Clinton Era things changed and you saw the President eating Big Macs and wearing baseball caps with a full business suit. Whilst these scenes may be endearing to the public, there is little doubt that President Clinton was more familiar to us, merely another one of us and, unlike the stars above, much closer to the ground.

Man is a mind with a body

Sleep Learning

MAN IS A MIND WITH A BODY

One of my countless blessings is a curious mind.

I must have been born under the sign of a question mark.

The adverbs How? Why? When? and Where? are the most overworked words in my vocabulary.

When I first learned to drive an automobile (before the days of the automatic gearshift), I was not content to be told how I should move the shift lever to change gears.

I insisted upon having the lid of the gearbox removed so that I could see what happened when the lever was moved.

I have always been like that.

Why does it work? How does it work? are just a couple of the questions always on the tip of my tongue.

Several years ago, while having dinner with a friend of mine, we began discussing a provocative subject: the mysteries of man.

We talked about the power of mind and how it directed every cell in the body; that to take away mind would leave a decaying mass of flesh and bones.

It was then that a great truth dawned upon me.

Up to that time I had looked at man as a body with a mind.

But he isn't.

Man is a mind with a body.

It is important to understand this truth, and as simple as it sounds, one must think about it quite awhile before he does understand it.

In reality, that body of yours is merely a utility for your mind  - which is you.

Your legs provide you with locomotion.

Your arms do the many jobs directed by your mind.

The food you eat furnishes fuel for your "engine.

" Your mouth performs a dual function.

It acts as a "hopper" for your food intake, and as a mouthpiece for your vocal communication system.

Your eyes are for guidance and your ears are receivers for your communication system.

Your physical being functions in a dual manner: 1, to keep itself alive and functioning and 2, to carry out and execute the dictates of the mind.

Cultivate your own image

Be a good listener

Be kind, considerate and courteous. But also be shrewd and know when to be tough and courageous. This is the mark of a well-defined character and you will surely command respect. It is most useful to read books on friendliness and enhancing relationships by being a good listener, showing others sincere appreciation and refining other interpersonal skills.

But, to truly succeed, one must also recognize that worldly wisdom and shrewdness are essential skills to foster. Become an expert in human psychology and be able to read the essence of people.

Never be taken advantage of and be aware of the politics around you. Stay above petty gossiping and office politics but appreciate that they indeed exist and know what goes on behind your back. Every great leader does.

Create your image as a highly competent, strong, disciplined, calm and decent individual. Find that crucial balance between working on the image that you project to the rest of the world and your inner character.

Create a sense of mystery about yourself as the truly wise never show their hand. Do not tell everyone everything about yourself, your strategies and your aspirations. The successful citizens of this world think thrice before they speak because a word uttered can never be retrieved.

Make things look easy and people will say you are naturally gifted. Speak only good things and people will flock to you. Never speak ill of others and all will know you will not malign them behind their backs. Build your character and live a highly principled life.

Upgrade your life

Imagine a life where you really need just your
own permission to go to work or stay home
with your family, go on vacation or remain
at work, a life where you choose what to do
at 6am, 10am, 2pm, 4pm and 8pm. A
life where you need no one's permission to
attend to a sick child, be at your children's
price giving day, sports day and other school
activities. A life where you're free to
prioritise different areas of your life as you
please.

Imagine a life, wholly dedicated to the
pursuit of that vision, that dream that
adventure that thrills you, excites you and
make you really happy.

Imagine a life where you're doing exactly
what you love, what you enjoy and there are
no boundaries, restrictions and limitations to
how far you want to go, how creative you
want to be and where no one panelises you
for daring to take risks and making
mistakes.
Imagine a life where what you do with so
much pleasure and satisfaction is what
generates your income. Imagine a life where
your daily fun, excitement and adventure is
what pays your bills and you still have
excess.

Imagine a life where your income is
determined by how much you're willing to
do, how far you're willing to go and how
much you wish to make. Imagine a life
where no one fixes or regulates your income.

Imagine a life where you can be earning in
thousands today and in a couple of months
you're earning in millions.
Imagine a life where your life standard is not
according to any hierarchy or ques or
determine in turns. A life where you need
not wait for a superior to get promoted or get
fired for you to have an opportunity to up
your position, income and lifestyle.

Imagine a life where the power to purchase
that dream car, the dream house, the dream
lifestyle is not in the hands of another person
or institution. A life where you can buy that
dream car when you choose, build the dream
house when you choose and put your kids in
the schools you want not the schools the
amount you're paid can afford.

Imagine a life where how your everyday
unfolds is based on your choices and
decisions. Imagine a life of true freedom to
become who you truly want to become in
life.

Imagine a life where you're not carried along
or carried away by trends, but you choose
and determine your own trends, you
determine your timing and seasons and enjoy
all you want when you want it, how you
want it and with whom you want it.

I have this question for you my friend, if
you are absolutely in charge of your own life
and time, will you be where you are right
now, doing what you're doing right now and
going to where you're going today? Think
about it, if your answer is yes, I'm very
happy for you but if otherwise, today's
message is for you.
You see many of us today have given up
completely our unique, personal, individual
and ordained life and dream for what is
general and common.

Many of us have lost respect for our
individuality and uniqueness and we
desperately seek acceptance and endorsement
from the people in and around our lives.
Many of us are not happy today because we
have allowed people we love, admire or
respect or even our immediate family and
community dictate to us, the kind of life we
should live and the kind of career they
approve of for us.
So we wake up every day living our lives to
please the people in our lives, and to impress
our immediate public.
Public opinion and approval have made many
ashamed of what they truly would want to be
and love to do in life and they are
unfortunately forcing themselves on jobs and
careers they hate and don't enjoy,
consequently many are not doing so well at
what they do and everyone sees them as
average performers and slow people; not
knowing the real problem is, they are not in
their real place of design and purpose in life.
What the world fails to acknowledge is,
every human being is a genius if properly
located at their place of calling and design in
life. Failures are not average or incompetent
people, they are just misplaced people in
life. God is too perfect and excellent to
create a faulty or less than excellent human
being. When human beings fail, they are
simply misplaced or misused. They are
perfect tools used for the wrong purpose.
Dear friend, when you're not free, when
you're not in charge of your life, you can't
be in charge of your happiness.

Ladies and gentlemen, your life should not
be determined by trends, needs, survival or
the approval of others. Your life must be
driven by your purpose, vision and ambition
if you truly want to succeed, find happiness
and fulfilment.

Start today to begin to reawaken your dream
life. How exactly do you want your life to
be? Don't allow your life to be judged and
appraised by people who don't appreciate or
respect your personal passion and excitement
in life. They will only discourage you and
make you feel wrong, worthless and
irresponsible. You don't have to remain a
doctor or a banker or stay employed in that
big company if your true passion is travels,
event planning; trading, entertainment,
photography, fashion, preaching the gospel
or caring for toddlers.
Don't just accept what life throws at you
and decide to cope, you must choose what
God designed you for in this life, don't
remain weak, timid or fearful, be willing to
sacrifice the good for what is best for you in
life.

Please take a look at your life thus far,
consider the various stages, primary,
secondary, university, NYSC, employment,
marriage and parenting, how many of these
played out according to how you really wanted
it?

How many of these stages brought you
absolute pleasure and satisfaction and you
didn't have to cope or endure any stage.
How many of these stages would you have
wished played out differently?
Dear friend, don't you want an upgrade in
your life?

Do you want to use your power and will to
bring into your life exactly what you desire or
want, or you're willing to settle for what
life offers you? The life quality of your
family, the quality of your vision, your
dream, the level of your happiness, your
fulfilment, peace and joy, who controls it,
who determines it, who is in charge of it?
Are you sacrificing an important aspect of
your life for another important aspect and you
think it's a necessary sacrifice? Are you
giving up family for career and you think you
have no choice? You know, it's possible to
actually succeed with both family and career
without sacrificing one for another if you want
to.

Dear friend, its time, you acknowledge and
respect your design, your purpose and your
place in this world.
This is the real key to happiness, joy,
fulfilment and peace at the end of your days.
Live a life of deliberate adventure, not
accidental adventure. Take charge of your
life.

The creative mind

THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND VS. THE CREATIVE MIND

In the early 1800's, when students of human behavior first began to realize that the mind was dual in its operation, the mind below the level of consciousness was named the subconscious mind.

It was felt that the conscious mind, with its ability to think, scheme, plan and reason, would naturally be the master mind and that the other one would be subservient to it.

This is far from being the truth.

As you are about to learn, the subconscious mind is the real seat of intelligence and power.

No one ever has had or will have as much intelligence, consciously, as all of us have subconsciously.

The prefix "sub" means under, below, beneath, lower.

For example: a post office substation is never as important as the main office.

Why then, since the subconscious mind is the seat of intelligence and power, call it the subconscious mind? Our thoughts and actions are continually being guided by the subconscious mind, whether or not we are led to success and happiness, or failure and despair.

As soon as we develop a success consciousness, the subconscious mind will direct us - in thought and action - to success and happiness.

This being true, don't you believe with me that the name Creative Mind would be more fitting? I'm sure you do, so from this page onward every time I mention the Creative Mind, I mean that which we formerly referred to as the subconscious mind.

Learn to organize your time

Learn to organize your time. It is incorrect to say that by becoming a meticulous time manager and living by a carefully defined schedule you become rigid and nonspontaneous. Rather, proper organization allows one to accomplish those goals which are truly important as well as enjoy leisure time. Good time management offers more time for fun and relaxation - not less.

These important periods are scheduled into the week just like other commitments which may appear more pressing. Neither are sacrificed.

Also, discipline yourself and stop wasting time on all those immediate and pressing but unimportant tasks (i.e., the ringing phones) and concentrate on the activities that are truly meaningful to your life's mission.

Such activities include time for self-renewal and reflection, time forging relationships built on trust and mutual respect, time for physical fitness, time to read and think deeply and time serving others in your community

The most important decision of your lifetime

When choosing your life partner, remember that this is the most important decision of your lifetime. The marriage relationship offers 90% of all your support, happiness and fulfillment so choose it wisely.

Consider qualities such as affection, sense of humor, intelligence, integrity, maturity, temperament, compatibility and that indescribable characteristic of chemistry. If these are present, your relationship stands an excellent chance of great success. Move slowly and let no one press you into an uncomfortable decision.

Never discuss your personal development activities with anyone. Your strategies for expanding your mind and spirit are your own. Others might not understand the value of personal-mastery and, further, will take away your credit when you meet with success by saying that you relied on techniques. Keep these self-development activities to yourself.

How to improve in your state of relaxation

Aromas have been proven to be an effective means of entering a state of relaxation. Scents have a very noticeable effect on your mindset and moods. Purchase the essential oils of orange and clove bud from your local health food shop. Put a few drops of either oil within a cup of boiling water and inhale the sweet smelling steam for a few minutes. Then let the mixture sit in the room where you are resting.

You will gain a sense of peace and serenity. A little apple spice in the air has recently been shown to induce a far more restful sleep.

Cultivate the art of walking half an hour after you have finished eating your evening meal. Walks in natural settings are the very best. Walking is, perhaps, nature's ideal exercise. And when you walk, do not think about work or about the bills or about the challenges you might be facing - this will neutralize many of the benefits. Simply enjoy the walk.

Notice the richness of your surroundings. Let your senses drink in the beauty of nature and the crispness of the air for a change.

So many people who have mastered the art of growing younger have also mastered the habit of a daily walk.

Relationship building should always be your central focus

Never argue with the person you work for - you will lose more than just the argument.

In terms of business attire, dark suits (navy blue and charcoal grey) reflect power, sophistication and authority. Have you ever seen a prime minister or president in a tan suit?

Regularly send handwritten notes to your business clients and your other relations to strengthen the bond. Develop a system which reminds you to send something valuable to this network at least once every four months. Send them postcards when you are away on vacation. If you have to buy a few hundred postcards and spend an hour writing, don't worry. This is an exceptionally good investment of your time. Another idea is to send a recent article of interest to your contacts with a handwritten note saying that you thought this would interest them and that you continue to value their friendship.

Relationship building should always be a central focus whether you are a CEO, a student, a salesperson or a parent.

Take what you need and what works for you

Remember that effective time management makes you more rather than less flexible. It allows you to do the things that you really want to do rather than the things you really have to do.

Do not take personal development books as gospel. Read them and take whatever useful ideas you need. Some people feel they must do everything suggested and take the techniques to extremes. Every book has at least one tool or strategy of benefit. Take what you need and what works for you and discard what doesn't suit you

Find more mentors

Find mentors to model who will guide you in your progress. The mistakes of the world have all been made once before - why shouldn't you have the benefit of the experience of others? Find someone who has both courage and consideration for others, someone who is therefore mature. Your mentor must have only your best interests in mind and should be sufficiently senior to offer you good guidance on the subjects you seek assistance with. Everyone needs to feel appreciated and even the busiest of executives will find time to assist a person who respects them and values their advice.

Always reflect on your cause of action

Do not eat three hours before sleep. This allows for smoother digestion and a more restful sleep. For deeper, more renewing sleep, remember that a daily dose of exercise promotes good sleep as does a period of relaxation an hour before bed. Also do not bring work to bed with you or think about anything which might agitate you. Ease yourself into sleep like a baby being sung a soft, soothing lullaby. And finally, as Leonardo da Vinci said: "a well-spent day brings happy sleep."

Be careful about your reputation. If it is good it will take you to the highest of heights. But once tarnished, it will be difficult to retrieve. Always reflect on your course of action. Never do anything you wouldn't be proud to tell your mother about. Have fun always but temper it with common sense and prudence.

Focus on the positive

Make a list of all your weaknesses. A truly confident and enlightened person will note a weakness and seek to methodically improve. Bear in mind that even the greatest and most powerful people have weaknesses. Some are better than others in hiding them. On the other hand, get to know your best qualities and cultivate them.
Never complain. Be known as a positive, strong, energetic and enthusiastic person. Someone who complains, is cynical and always looks for the negative in everything, will scare people away and rarely will succeed at anything. From a purely psychological viewpoint, things are always created twice: once in the mind and then in reality. Focus on the positive. Be so mentally tough that nothing takes you off your planned course to success. Visualize and firmly believe in what you want. It will most certainly come true.

Never overlooked the weakness of your Friends

Overlook the weaknesses of your friends. If you look for flaws you will most surely find them. Be mature enough to ignore the petty failings of others and see the good that each one inherently possesses. We can learn from everyone. Everyone has a story to tell, a joke to share and a lesson to learn. Open your mind to this and you will learn a tremendous amount. Friends are so very important to a happy existence - especially those who have shared many experiences and laughs with you. Work hard to make friendships, and all your relationships for that matter, stronger and richer. Call your friends, buy them small gifts of books or other items you believe they might enjoy. The "law of the farm" applies to relationships as well as to the rest of life - you reap what you sow and to have great friends you must first be one.

Design and implementation of a computerized information system for a multi service rental center

Most  rental  service  firms  today  still  use  manual information  system  because  their  information  needs  are  of moderate size and managers of such firms have probably been enjoying the manual system as regards to their relatively and comfortable low level of transaction activities.

With the high level of social activities been experienced, It is  only  the  rental  firms  with  very  large  information  or  high capacity of rental service with rapid rate of renting per item that are  likely  to  survive  pressure,  and  therefore  should  link information system  to business  strategy. With this pressure, there is a need to improve corporate effectiveness through their own involvement in system planning to ensure that business strategy  is  developed  in  the  context  of  the  computerized environment.

Among the many rental service centers,  majority adopted a great  variety  of  manual  information  system  for  management activities most of which are single file system. This single file

DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A COMPUTERISED BILL OF MATERIAL PROCESSING PROJECT

It suffices to say that for any meaningful computer based information management to be integrated into any organization, proper training and orientation has to be given both staff and management. Proper training should be given to the data entry staff on how to handle the computer hardware especially during backup processes.

In particular electronic storage media are usually sensitive to change in temperature or pressure and as such data, can be lost very easily. The staff should also be highlighted on the need and advantage of the system and how it will equally assist them in their various field of work.

They should also be informed of the cost of maintaining this new system so that they will handle it with all carefulness. Training materials should not be presented in formal way but with procedures like policies and form etc, they should be circulated to the personnel. This will at the end, generate appreciation and needed interest to operate the system.

Budgeting and budgetary control as tools for accountability in government parastatals

This research work was   focused on investigation on the use of budgeting and  budgetary  control  as    tools  for  accountability  in  government parastatals.  (  A  case  study  of  Enugu  State  Housing  Development Corporation). Budgetary control is a quantitative expression of plane of action prepare in advance of period to which it relate. The organization is face with the problem of lack of budgeting while planning and controlling  their activities. The objective of the study is to determine if budgeting and budgetary control affect the quality of services delivery in government parastatals.

The research also aims at determining if budgetary control contribute  to  the  improvement  of  management  efficiency  and  high productivity. Data were collected from primary and secondary source. Secondary source of data were collected from textbooks, periodic articles and journals. Questions were distributed as well as personal interviews with functional and departmental heads were conducted. The sample size of 60 were used and was chosen among the number of department / section  using  Bowleys  proportional  allocation  formula  Data  were analyzed using table and simple percentage, hypothesis were tested using chi-square statistics. We discovered among other things that budgeting and budgetary control affect the quality of service delivery in government parastatals.

It was also revealed that budgeting and budgetary control contributes  to  the  improvement  of  management  efficiency  and  high productivity. In line with the above, we recommend among other things that the budget plan and preparation should be a corporate duty of the unit heads with head of department in the corporation, improving legislation, realistic budget target. Adherence in the budgeting provision should be practiced by top management

How to be incharge of your own life

Many today have no deliberate grip or control over their lives. Many don't even understand the “how” of being in charge of their own lives. Many have never experienced a season when they are absolutely in charge of themselves. Many more have given up the possibility of being in charge of their own decisions, directions and destination in life.

Dear friend, your life is expressed and measured based on time. As the clock keeps ticking, your life keeps running and gradually ebbing away.

To be in charge of your life, is to be in charge of your time. To be in charge of your time is having the power to determine and chose what you do at every point in time in your life.

A situation where no one but you determines what you want to do with every day and every hour is really being in charge and control of your life.

As a child or a teenager when you still needed to be taught and guided by your parents and/or caregivers, yes its appropriate you submit to them even when you disagree with some of their rules and instructions, but immediately you attain adulthood, wherein you can now make your decisions and choices, your number one struggle should be to liberate yourself from every other force or system that has the power to limit you, restrict you, contain you and control you.

I'm not advocating rebellion or lack of submission, but the need to apprehend the power to make your own decisions, your power to choose and be free from controlling forces.

A life where other people and other things determine what you do, how you do it, how you live, where you live and how far you can go per time is a life out of your own control.

An Assessment Of Cost Performance And Accountability In Privatized Public Enterprises In Nigeria

Despite an impressive level of privatization activity across Africa and the upsurge in search of the operating performance of privatized firms in both develop  and  developing  economies,  our  empirical  knowledge  of  the privatization program in Africa is limited. The purpose of this study is to appraise the post privatization cost and operating performance as well as accountability of some privatized public enterprises in Nigeria. A survey research design was adopted for the study, sixty five internal audit and thirty  five  accounting.

Totally  one  hundred  was  randomly  sampled  and stratified  among  the  staff  of  Oando  plc  Enugu  state.  Three  research questions and hypothesis tested at 0.05 percent level of significance guided the study. Frequencies, percentages, mean and standard deviation were employed  to  answer  the  research  questions  while  Z-test  statistics  were used to test the hypothesis. It was found that privatization of unipetrol has led to efficient and improved  cost performance, and proper accountability to share holders.

We conclude and recommend among others that effective cost  performance  and  proper  accountability  to  share  holders  is  very necessary in privatized public enterprises and that government should prive the entire necessary enabling environment for the privatized company to carry out their activities without unnecessarily increasing their cost.

ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF FINANCIAL STATEMENT AS A MANAGERIAL TOOL FOR DECISION MAKING

Financial  Statement  Analysis  and  Interpretation  is  a  very  vital instrument  of  good  management  decision-making  in  business enterprise.  Good decisions ensure business survival, profitability and growth.  Without financial statement analysis in investment decisions, an enterprise is likely to make decisions, which could spell its doom.  Poor or lack of qualitative financial statement analysis could lead to investment returns, low profitability and even inability to identify viable investment  opportunities.    The  main  objective  of  this  project  is therefore, was to determine how firms could use financial statement analysis and interpretation to aid management decisions and to avert the problems highlighted above.  Primary and secondary data are employed to  broaden the scope of  this study.

Primary  data  are sourced from questionnaire responses.  This provided data for the validation of the hypotheses tested with the use of chi-square (X2 ).  The test revealed as follows: (1) Significant difference between the returns of the financial statement in Analysis and Interpretation based on  management  decision.  (2)  Organizational  profitability  has relationship with financial statement analysis and interpretation based management decision but not significantly.  The project concludes that companies should pay great attention to the use of financial statement  analysis  so  as  to  properly  equip  themselves  with  this invaluable  tool.

The  researcher  recommends  the  following:  (a) Accountants or financial analysts should not be rushed in collection, preparation, analysis and interpretation off financial statements. (b) Financial  statements  should  be  made  to  reflect  current  cost accounting  to  eliminate  or  reduce  the  effects  to  historical  cost principle  and  inflation risk  element.  (c)  A  combination of  different ratios  should  be  used  in  analyzing  a  company’s  financial  and/or operating performance. Proper use of financial statement analysis should be made not only in investment but also in other areas of decision making.

A good leader shouldn't recount, recite and rehearse economic problems

A good leader shouldn't recount, recite and rehearse economic problems, economic setbacks, adverse policies and general limitations to their business.

The worth of a good leader is best put to the test in seasons such as this. What makes anyone a good leader is beyond academic qualifications, titles, hard work and even experience.

Your worth as a leader is in having correct answers and solutions superior to those of your subordinates and in fact your competitors at this time.

Critical analysis of value for money audit in public sector

Auditing has existed as long as man has been required to account for their transactions. A famous example is in St. Mathew’s Gospel (Chapter 25) when the rich man went on a journey and delivered his goods to a servant to look after them while he was away. On his return, he asked each of these servants to account for the goods with which he had been entrusted.

In the ancient ages, great land owners would not manage their own land, but would appoint stewards to manage their own land for them. The account of these land owners were checked by having them called out by those  who  gave  them  to  those  in  authority  (land  owners)  for  hearing otherwise called stewardship accounting.

Data were collected from primary and secondary sources which include the use of questionnaires,  personal  observations,  text  books,  journals  and  internet.

Three hypotheses were formulated and tested using Z-test statistics, while questionnaires were analyzed in tabular form using simple percentage. It was discovered that software  accounting  system  is  expensive  to  run,  software  accounting  system handles  larger  volume  of  data  than  manual  accounting  system  and  software accounting system encourages fraud, and funds can be lost in organization with the use of software accounting system.

POLITICAL CONFLICT IN NIGERIAN DEMOCRACY

ABSTRACT

The  high  incidence  of  political  conflict  has  been  a  major  problem  in Nigerian politics since the inception of the country as a polity; from the colonial period to the stage of attainment of Republican hood; and since then free and fair election have been very elusive because all election has been characterized  by  political  violence,  in  our  attempt  to  address  these phenomenon we analyze the case of Anambra state between 1999 to 2007 when  the  violence  reached  climax  in  the  state.  We  used  documentary research method for gathering and analyzing data while conflict theory was used for the analytical framework. Political godfatherism was identified as the major problem that generated the crises in the election of Chinwoke Mbadinuju and Chris Ngige the governors that ruled the state during the period  under  investigation  Chief  Emeka  Ofor  and  Chief  Chris  Uba the godfathers claimed to have sponsored the election of Mbadinuju and Chris Ngige  respectively.

Other  contributory  factors  where  the  imposition  of unpopular candidate during the gubernatorial elections in the period and negative reaction of the federal government that aggravated the crises. The work concluded that the political violence was caused by politicians, who wanted to satisfy private interest to the detriment of the collective good of the Anambra state whose disagreement engendered conflict that adversely affected the entire electoral process and the  entire political order in form of violence. The work recommends among others things that they should be a legislative  order  or  law  that  will  stop  various  forms  of  political godfatherism.
