THE SUITABILITY OF PROFESSIONAL BUILDER AS A PROJECT MANAGER IN THE NIGERIAN CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY: The construction industry is a very vital sector of the economy in every country as its contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) in terms of employment generation and capital formation cannot be over emphasized.It can be deduced from the above statement that project management in the construction industry cannot be neglected as the project manager plays an important role in the successful execution of construction projects. Project management has been described as the planning, controlling and co-ordination of a project from inception to completion on behalf of a client CIOB, (1992). Project management concerns itself with the identification of client’s objectives in terms of utility function, quality, time, cost and the establishment of relationship between resources. Project management may also be defined as the overall planning, control and co-ordination of a project from inception to completion aimed at meeting a client’s requirements in order that the project will be completed on time, within authorized cost and to the required quality standard CIOB, (1992). The project manager will ensure that the client’s brief, all designs, specifications and relevant information/data are made available to and are executed as specified with due regard to cost, by the design team, consultants and contractors (i.e. the project team), so that the client’s objectives are fully met CIOB, (1992).
